EarthRise Arts Center
The EarthRise Arts Center is a multi-disciplinary, multi-usage space to be based in Brooklyn, which focuses on a broad range of arts, consisting of five areas: movement space, performance space, art gallery, café, and writer’s community. Each area serves both to allow experts in each field to work and showcase their talents, as well as doubling as an educational area, where people interested in yoga, dance, art (painting, photography), writing, and cooking can begin or continue their education, or new learn about new, global-minded aspects of their arts.
The theme of the EarthRise Arts Center is community building, locally as well as globallyan idea that needs to be understood and integrated in a real, tactile way, not only via lip service. The Arts are entry points to foreign cultures, beyond political and social ideologies, and should be celebrated on their own terms. It is a non-discriminatory space where people feel safe to go in order to be educated and share in world cultures. It will be sustained through its diverse variety of offerings, as well as grants, which will all be handled by each area’s experts, who will form the board of the EarthRise Arts Center.
EarthRise SoundSystem is the artistic and live team of DJ/Writer/Yogi Derek Beres and Producer/Percussionist Duke Mushroom. Blending Duke's Award nominated production style (Bole 2 Harlem) and Derek's expansive vision of Global Beat Fusion, this duo has paired up to explore common cultural and sonic ground and create unique soundscapes, equally at home in the yoga studio or club and lounge.
The duo is hard at work on their debut recording, The Yoga Sessions, an electrorganic blend of music, designed for Derek's intense EarthRise Yoga classes. The album features an amazing array of musicians, including Morley, Lucy Woodward, Basya Schechter, Lital Gabai, Rachel Golub, Daniel Dworkin, MC Samurai, Dave Sharma, and Eccodek.
